The Graphic Arts Artistry & Technology

Graphic Design is used everywhere. This here, is an example of how design is used on the most simplistic things, such as playing cards. Practically every deck of playing cards has elements of design; from which font is selected to the image itself. This goes to show that there are designs to be made for every designer.

Movie covers are another prime example of great design. Take note of all the different factors that come into play. A designer must be wise on which font to use for the title, what the main emphasis is, and just the entire hierarchy of the design. The creator of this specific "Man of Steel" cover most likely used Adobe Photoshop or a program similar to really bring it to life.

Advertising is one the most important reasons why graphic design is so such a hit. A great design could influence or sway somebody to buy a certain product. This partial image of a Versace ad alone shows some key graphic elements. The consistency of color, along with the accent of gold makes everything seem sleek. Their designer wants people to think that this fragrance is luxurious.

This LG phone ad uses a design element that wants the consumer to know that the screen is big. They do so by enlarging the picture of the phone to mimic that of a television. Even the picture displayed on the phone, since that it's sports, it appeals more to men. That ties into more of how design intertwines with marketing.

Not all design is done on the computer though. This tin lid to a set of Prismacolor pencils displays a beautiful drawing probably created using those specific pencils. The design wants to show the consumer what can be done with these materials. Converting hand drawn designs to the computer, to later be used for a larger project is one of the most satisfying parts of this practice.
